Google Chrome Operating System?
Wah! After less than a year releasing Google Chrome browser, now the Google people is coming up with a new project – Google Chrome Operating System!
Google Chrome OS is an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be targeted at netbooks. Later this year we will open-source its code, and netbooks running Google Chrome OS will be available for consumers in the second half of 2010. Because we’re already talking to partners about the project, and we’ll soon be working with the open source community, we wanted to share our vision now so everyone understands what we are trying to achieve.
This is technology. Second half of 2010, I can’t wait for this to happen.

The Next Gen USB 3.0
Soon, we don’t have to wait too long to do data transfer to our machine or to whatever storage media we have. Just imagine, to transfer a 25GB HD movie will take only 70 seconds to finish. That’s really fast!
Yea, the next-generation USB 3.0 specification is slated to be introduced later this month and according to everythingusb, it will be unveiled next monday.

The USB 3.0 specification, a next-generation high-speed connection standard due in 2009, is significant because all future PCs and devices will use connectors based on it. The spec is also expected to offer 10 times the speed of USB 2.0–used in virtually all PCs introduced in the last few years–or roughly 5 gigabits per second.
[via CNet]
WinHEC 2008 has a a brief performance comparison sample for data transfer of 25GB HD movie:
- USB 1.0: 9.3 hours
- USB 2.0: 13.9 minutes
- USB 3.0: 70 seconds
Awesome!

Ubuntu Tee
I got this pos ekspress a day before Hari Raya, about 2 weeks ago. It was from ZULMALC !

A t-shirt? Yes, it’s a Ubuntu T-Shirt which i ordered from melayubuntu. His blog is one of my favourites after Tombuntu, where I learned a lot about this distro, tips & tricks before I started to fall in love with Linux. Heh. I’m still new i must say, a 10-months old ubuntu user.
Ubuntu?! How to pronounce? Watch here .
Ok. Full stop.
Let’s have a look at the shirt.

At the back of the shirt, it’s printed there ” Ubuntu Malaysia, Linux For Human Beings“. Cool.
Now zoom..

..the front design. I like!

FireFox 3 Out Now
The latest version of Mozilla Firefox web browser, Firefox 3 released today. I’ve tried the beta version of Firefox 3 before in my Ubuntu (Hardy Heron) and what i can say, it’s not good enough. Few plugins/add-ons were not compatible (i dunno why Ubuntu 8.04 set Firefox 3 Beta as their default browser). Also a bit lagging when you open multiple tabs. Yea, i consider all that since it was a beta version. However it has improved! Still rocking lar, i must say. Much Better than IE7.
I’m sure this latest version of Firefox is getting better. Download for free. Hey! Don’t forget to spread the word about the Download Day, a mission to set a Guinness World Record for the most software downloaded in 24 hours!
Woot! I’m going to..

Google, Wine, Codeweavers & Adobe Photoshop
Woooot! Just another superb project from Google. They hired Codeweavers to make Photoshop CS and CS2 work better under Wine. A good news I must say for all Linux users as Google & Codeweavers are working hard to improve Wine for Adobe Photoshop in Unix platform. Yah as we know.. There are quite number of people who use “Photoshop” as an excuse not to switch to Linux 100% (including myself)
. I still prefer dual-boot because of this single reason.
Wine is an Open Source implementation of the Windows API on top of X, OpenGL, and Unix.Think of Wine as a compatibility layer for running Windows programs. Wine provides both a development toolkit for porting Windows source code to Unix as well as a program loader, allowing many unmodified Windows programs to run on x86-based Unixes, including Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X, and Solaris.
Thanks Google for this Open Source project! Wooot!

Photoshop works better than ever in Linux, Thanks to Google

My New Gadget GW-US54GD
See what i bought from All IT Hypermarket at Low Yat Plaza last few weeks. Yeah.. a Wireless LAN USB Adapter with Wi-Fi Detector. My new gadget for this year.

A first, i thought wanna buy a basic WLAN USB Adapter but when i saw this PCI brand and its “extra” function (Wi-Fi Detector), I finally change my mind. Why not pay RM89 for that extra features. A D-Link WLAN Dongle costs me around RM75, if i’m not mistaken. Only a bit cheaper, ya?
Additional Info : GW-US54GD uses Zydas ZD1211 chipset.
What’s in the box?

A manual book and warranty card, cd driver, a usb cable and strap.
Na na na..

I’m not going to explain more on the specs, but you can always read it HERE.
Yay! Now i can search for wireless connection using GW-US54GD. Hope i could find as many unsecure connections here in Shah Alam.
I wish.
Hmm, just push the button and it will detect the nearest access points, with strength indicator, both secure and unsecure connections. Yes, the device uses built-in rechargeable battery. Plug it into your USB slot to charge.
Oh ya, it supports Linux too. But I haven’t try yet. Maybe in my next post (not a promise).
Go wireless!

Transfer your files using FireFTP, a Firefox extension
I was desperately looking for a standalone FTP client last few days coz I misplaced my thumbdrive (where I installed my Portable Filezilla). Plus, I do not have the priviledge to install any software/freewares in my machine which I currently using right now.
Argh, need to upload few urgent thing for printing. I asked Mr Google and I found FireFTP, a Firefox extension.

What can I say? It’s a great tool, simple, fast and you can even do the file transfer in the browser tab. Quite useful and efficient, eh? If you are a Firefox user and uses FTP client for your daily work, maybe you need to consider FireFTP.
So far based on my experience, I think Filezilla is still the best FTP client for me. And now maybe I’ll treat FireFTP as an alternative for my Firefox version.
Download and Try? Or consider a donation.

Ping Services
I guess most of Wordpress users know that, Ping-O-Matic is their default Update Service..
Your WP Dashboard > Options > Writing > Update Services

.. and actually you can add more place to ping besides Ping-O-Matic. Check the updated list and read more in here and here. But remember, Ping with caution. In other word, ethically.

Google is Buying Feedburner for US$100 Million?
The rumours is over. So what now? The deal is already confirmed.
Via TechCrunch
Rumors about Google acquiring RSS management company Feedburner from last week, started by ex-TechCrunch UK editor Sam Sethi, are accurate and are now confirmed according to a source close to the deal. Feedburner is in the closing stages of being acquired by Google for around $100 million.
FeedBurner is a well known leading provider of media distribution and audience engagement services for blogs and RSS feeds. Well, I guess this will be a smart move for Google.
